Lake Richmond Western Australia Wild Life

Lake Richmond is a perennial fresh freshwater lake, 1000 meters long and 600 meters across. It is unusually deep reaching a depth of 15 meters. The lake it self is Heritage listed because it's a marine relic and home to the endangered ecological community Thrombolites.

The thrombolites began to form around 600 million years ago and when Lake Richmond was a bay connected to Cockburn Sound ( from approximately 1,200 years ago, aborigines built fish traps using surface pieces of thrombolites.

Birds: Australian Penlican, Australian Shelduck, Black winged stilt, Black Shouldered Kite, Black Swan, Common Greenshank, Eurasiar Coot, Great Egret, Grey Butcherbird, Grey Plover, Musk Duck, Osprey, Pacific Black Duck, Pied Cormorant, Purple Swamphen, Red Necked Avocet, Singing Honey Eater, Willie Wagtail, White Faced Heron.
