Murdoch Uni welcomes lion's share of funding

Saturday, 3 July 2004

Western Australia's Murdoch University has received the largest share of federal funding allocated to the state for new tertiary student places.

The university's vice chancellor, John Yovich, says the Government's higher education reform funding package will allow the university to open its doors to another 470 students next year.

He says the new places will be distributed over the university's three campuses in Murdoch, Rockingham and Peel.

Professor Yovich says the money will also fund new courses.

"We've got some other programs in security and terrorism, in counter-terrorism that'll also receive places," he said.

"We've also developed power engineering in Rockingham and we've seen recently in the state the importance of management of power generation, so we hope to attract some excellent future engineers in that one."

With thanks
