Just under an hour from the City of Perth , the Rockingham area is renowned for it's quiet waters and is perfect for small boat fishing.There are several boat ramps and jetties around the coastline. The jetties around Rockingham and Safety Bay are good spots for catching Herring, Whiting, Blue Mackerel, Squid, Tailor and Pike.

In the early winter months when the first of the North Westerly storm's arrive, dedicated anglers can be found on the Rockingham and Palm Beach jellies fishing for the elusive Snapper, boaties are also found fishing the gravel patches or the D9 for that big Snapper..

Cockburn Sound
Cockburn Sound is a top spot for the small boat angler. The Sound is home to Skipjack Trevally, Snapper, King George Whiting, Sand Whiting, Herring and Tailor. Larger vessels explorering off-shore to fish the reefs at the Western Side of Garden Island often come across Dufish, Samson, Snapper and several other species of reef fish like the wrasse.

The beaches along Cockburn Sound provide anglers with good catches of Herring, Tailor and Skipjack Trevally. There are several groynes to fish from with in Cockburn Sound most of the groynes protect the launching ramps and beache's. The groynes like the ASI and Woddies as we locals call it, allow anglers access to deeper water with in Cockburn Sound.

I suggest you try Woodman's Point groyne, WAPET groyne and Cockburn Power Boat Club groyne which all provide spot on fishing, the beaches that are near the groyne's are all popular spots for catching Herring, Tailor and Skipjack Trevally.

Warnbro Sound
Warnbro Sound is allso a top spot for the small boat angler, this area is home to Skipjack Trevally, Snapper, King George Whiting, Sand Whiting, Herring and Tailor.Third Rock and the Sisters are known spot's for good size Tailor but please watch the reef line when casting your lures into the white wash, large numbers of sand whitting can be found heading towards Penguin Island along with Flat head, good numbers of gardies are also found around the reefs.
