Garden Island Western Australia

Captain James Stirling first landed on Garden Island in 1827, and founded the first European settlement in Western Australia.

The island is situated 13 kilometer's 8 miles south of Fremantle. Garden island is a maintenance facility for the Royal Australian Navy. A causeway 13,809 feet (4,209 meter's) long links to the mainland.

Public access to the island is only by private boat, only 80% of the island is open to the public, and you must leave by night fall.

Garden Island is known for its beautiful beaches and bays, and is an ideal place for picnics for the family, swimming, fishing, surfing and sailing are done with in local waters, their is also a look out for the explorer. Their are many species of [ Animals ] that live on Garden Island as well. You can also see buildings of the first settlement at Cliff Head. The original well is there, and a memorial and lookout has also been constructed.
